Swaledale and Arkengarthdale are the most northerly dales in the Yorkshire Dales National
Park.
Swaledale was described by the great Alfred Wainwright as his 'favourite dale'.
The Dale is famous for its scenery with its stone walls, field barns, moorland, many
footpaths for river and low and high level walking and its wild-life.
Its ancient villages have historic buildings, many places to stay, eat and be entertained.
It is the home of the nationally renowned Swaledale Festival & in 2014 hosted stage one
of the Tour de France cycle race.
